Hunter’s Hill Council has demonstrated its commitment to sustainability with the acquisition of its first 100% electric mower.

The ECO Teq Evo mower arrived yesterday morning, 20 December 2023, just in time for Council's routine maintenance at Boronia Park Oval.

Mitchell Murphy, Council’s General Manager, expressed his enthusiasm for this sustainable initiative, stating, ‘The acquisition of the electric mower is a significant achievement in our journey towards leading by example to reduce our carbon footprint’.

This new addition to Council’s fleet has a 7-8-hour continuous running time, which will enable Council’s maintenance program to operate seamlessly. Additional benefits will include; a faster mowing speed, high cut grass quality and reduced greenhouse gas emissions.

As well as no fuel, filters and belts, the electric mower will run at a noise level under 85 decibels, reducing noise pollution and creating a quieter and more pleasant environment for residents and visitors alike.

The benefits continue with a reduction in fleet operating costs over the long term. Mitchell also outlined, ‘By replacing our traditional gas-powered mowers with electric mowers, Council will alleviate operational emissions by over 20 tonnes of carbon dioxide annually. This is equivalent to the emission of up to 20 cars’.

‘This investment aligns with our commitment to reduce carbon emissions to net-zero by 2030 and foster a cleaner and greener environment for our residents,’ Mitchell continued.

The electric mower is currently being trialled, with a decision on purchasing more for the fleet and other electric options in the near future.
