The highly anticipated upgrade of Figtree Park is complete. A grand re-opening of the revitalised park took place on Saturday 15 June.

Council invited the community for a picnic in the park, with free face painting, giant bubbles and live music by King Olav, plus more.

The demolition of a dwelling at 48 Gladesville Road allowed Council to provide additional open space in the park, including a new entrance and plaza area from Gladesville Road providing better access with proximity to the Hunters Hill Village shops.

Other improvements include:

  • construction of an accessible pathway;
  • installation of a new drainage system;
  • installation of lighting;
  • planting of garden beds and new trees;
  • installation of park furniture, including seating, bubblers etc;
  • construction of a new playground with climbing structures, a nest swing, spring rider, outdoor musical percussion, talking tubes and a rope ladder leading to an elevated platform; and
  • a new toilet amenities block to be constructed by the end of this year.

This project has been proudly funded by the NSW Government’s Public Spaces Legacy Program.

NSW Minister for Planning and Public Spaces Paul Scully said the upgrades will provide a new inclusive playground and expanded open space areas for the surrounding Hunters Hill community to enjoy.

“The NSW Government is investing over $200 million across the state to deliver 100 new and improved open space projects.” Mr Scully said.

“Our diverse open space projects include new and improved walking and cycle paths, parks, trails, boardwalks, lookouts, foreshores, riverbanks, play spaces, civic plazas, and outdoor event spaces.”

Mayor of Hunter’s Hill Council Zac Miles said he was pleased to see Figtree Park unveiled.

“We know the extraordinary benefits that come from quality open space like what is being delivered here in Figtree Park, providing fit for purpose contemporary amenities for our municipality,” Cr Miles said.

“It contributes to our community’s health and wellbeing, and adds vibrancy and activity to our village precinct. Council is proud to deliver another wonderful project to the Hunters Hill community.

“The much-needed toilet block is the final phase of construction for this project. This new amenity will be opened by the end of this year and we’re appreciative of the State Government funding for the project.

“I look forward to seeing it activated with local events, Saturday morning park picnics and children enjoying the new playground.”
