An action plan to boost feelings of safety in Hunters Hill and a street lighting project that will produce energy and cost savings have been endorsed by Hunter’s Hill Council.

At its meeting last night (20 September), Council resolved to work with street lighting services provider Ausgrid to transition 373 main road street lights to LED bulbs over the next three (3) years.

A report to Council said replacing existing lighting with lower energy consuming LEDs would reduce on-going costs, provide the community with more effective lighting and deliver environmental benefits.

These included a 58 per cent reduction in energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions, significantly reduced light pollution to the night sky and the elimination of mercury-containing lamps.

Council also endorsed a draft Hunters Hill Crime Prevention Strategy and Action Plan.

The plan outlines Council’s commitment to ensuring that residents feel safe, in and around their neighbourhood, and was developed following community and stakeholder consultation, including liaison with Ryde Police Area Command.

It proposes actions such as installation of CCTV at selected locations, improvements to lighting and signage, facility upgrades, and community education and engagement to strengthen capacity and resilience for a safe community.

Also at last night’s meeting, Council resolved not to proceed with plans for an enclosed small dog park in a proposed location at Tarban Creek Reserve, following consideration of extensive community feedback.
