Reconciliation Action Plan launch

Council acknowledges the Wallumedegal of the Eora Nation as the Traditional Custodians of all land and water of the Hunter’s Hill Council local government area.

Council pays respect to Elders past, present and emerging, and extends this respect to all Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people living in or visiting the local area.

Council officially launched its Reflect: Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) on Tuesday 21 May. It was formally endorsed by Reconciliation Australia.

Council's Director of People and Culture, Rosanna Guerra expressed her excitement when launching the inaugural RAP.

"Our first RAP is a historical and monumental moment for our Council. The last 12 months has been a reflective and rewarding experience where we have had the privilege of working alongside some amazing and passionate people," she said.

"Our RAP is an authentic and inspirational business plan that uses a holistic approach to create meaningful relationships and enhanced respect for Indigenous people, and it promotes sustainable opportunities, specific to our local area, to recognise First Nations People."

There are four RAP types - Reflect, Innovate, Stretch and Elevate. This Reflect RAP will lay the foundations, priming the workplace for future RAPs and reconciliation initiatives.

Mayor Zac Miles said the launch of the Plan was a major milestone and just the beginning of a rewarding journey for Council

"We are proud to launch our Reconciliation Action Plan which is an important step in our journey towards reconciliation," he said.

As part of the launch, all staff were provided with a polo shirt depicting the snapper fish, which is significant to the Wallumedegal people. The artwork was created by local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in 1998.

Council will continue to instigate support for the Plan across our organisation and community, and drive the actions that we have detailed.
