Published on 20 September 2024
Spring is in the air and there’s no better place to see the flowers blossom than Hunters Hill – Australia’s oldest garden suburb! Seven vibrant gardens took out the top accolades at the Hunters Hill Spring Garden Competition Awards evening on Friday 20 September.
The community gathered in the new Boronia Park Sports and Community Facility to celebrate the dedication and passion of all the gardeners who entered the competition.
The event was proudly sponsored by McGrath Hunters Hill and presented by the Rotary Club of Hunters Hill in partnership with Hunter’s Hill Council.
Mayor Zac Miles said the competition has been a resounding success since its return last year.
“It’s a great testament to our longstanding reputation as Australia’s oldest Garden Suburb and our community’s commitment to preserving Hunters Hills’s natural beauty,” Mayor Miles said.
Vice-president of the Rotary Club of Hunters Hill, Charles Amos, said the money raised from the Garden Competition will go towards the restoration of Hillman Orchard.
“The event continues to bring the community together with more garden entrants this year and a full house at our fabulous gala awards evening in the Boronia Parks Sports and Community Facility,” he said
The winners of the seven categories were:
- Overall best garden – Karl Romandi, Hunters Hill
- Overall best garden (with help) – Bryan Sidgreaves, Huntleys Cove
- Best small balcony and courtyard garden – Oliver Pappa, Gladesville
- Best native inspired ‘habitat-friendly’ garden – Daniel Michael, Henley
- Best streetscape garden – Lynne Metcalfe, Hunters Hill
- Best beautified or maintained public space – Henley Green Community Garden

The community is invited to tour the best blooms in Hunters Hill on Sunday 22 September at the Open Garden Day which will run from 10am to 4pm.
