Tree DAs

Step 1.Get the Facts 

Before lodging a tree DA, check to see if the proposed pruning or removal could be approved via exemption or a tree permit. 

You only require a tree DA if you propose to:

• remove a significant or heritage listed tree
• remove prescribed vegetation within a heritage listed property 
• remove prescribed vegetation within a heritage conservation area.

All other tree pruning or removal requires a tree permit or an exemption. 

Step 2.Prepare Information

To apply for a tree DA you must provide: 

• owners consent
• site plan
• Statement of Environmental Effects

Step 3.Apply

All DA's must be lodged via the NSW Planning Portal. For guidance visit the Service NSW website or view the DA online how to guide. 

Once you have logged on to the NSW Planning Portal, please select new Development Application (do not select Private Tree Permit). 

When you are prompted to select the common application type, please select demolition. 

If you do not know the cost of works for the proposed tree removal, please enter $1.00.
