What is Hazardous Waste?
Any household waste that can pose a direct hazard to the health of humans, animals or plants. Hazardous waste cannot be placed in your residential waste bins as it must be disposed of safely.
Hazardous waste includes:
- fluorescent lights
- smoke detectors
- paint cans
- gas bottles
- fire extinguishers
- batteries
- oils
- printer cartridges
- x-ray films.
Dispose of hazardous waste at the Northern Sydney Community Recycling Centre (CRC)
The Community Recycling Centre (CRC) is a free service provided by eight Northern Sydney local councils and the NSW EPA where you can drop off selected household problem waste that can’t go in your kerbside bins.
The CRC is located at 8 Waltham Street, Artarmon.
Opening Hours
- Wednesday to Friday: 8am to 2pm.
- Saturday and Sunday: 8am to 4pm.
- Closed Mondays, Tuesdays and public holidays.

NSW EPA
If you have a large volume of or unacceptable varieties of hazardous waste, you should visit the EPA website or contact them on 131 555 for advice about disposing of your hazardous materials.
